European pilots represented by ECA are shocked and saddened by the tragic accident of Spanair flight JK5022. Our thoughts are now with the families of our colleagues and of all the other victims of the accident.

This tragedy again reminds us of the importance of continuously improving the safety of aviation. That is why ECA calls for the highest caution in the analysis of possible factors contributing to the accident and to allow the Accident Investigation Commission to carry out their duty independently and without unnecessary pressure. In this way, the factors contributing to the accident will be clarified, analysed and used to prevent future catastrophes.
