Mark your calendars! In November, a new study will be taking the pulse of safety culture in aviation:  Do airlines prioritise profit over safety, punishment or reporting, fatigue management or productivity? The London School of Economics will ask pilots about their views in a survey on safety culture.

After a successful examination of safety culture in other sensitive sectors such as nuclear plants and ATM, the researchers will now make a first attempt to expand their understanding of safety culture’s meaning for pilots. This large scale research, funded (partly) by the European Commission, provides a unique opportunity for identifying and addressing problems with safety culture within European aviation. You as a safety professional have undoubtedly many things to say so keep an eye for the questionnaire in November and share it with your pilot colleagues. Your participation is crucial!
