During its extraordinary General Assembly, held on 24 February in Brussels, ECA’s Member Associations elected two new members of its Executive Board: Nico Voorbach, from the Dutch association, as President of ECA; and Jon Horne, from the British association, as Professional Affairs Director. They join the Board of Directors, which had already welcomed in November 2010 two new Technical Directors, Álvaro Gammicchia and Francis Nardy. ECA would like to give special thanks to Martin Chalk, for his dedication as ECA President for the last six years; and to Joe Kraus, for his work as Professional Affairs Director since 2008.

Nico Voorbach is a B-777 First Officer at KLM and has been striving for aviation safety and security at national, European and international levels for many years. During his speech at the ECA General Assembly, he stressed that “it is both a challenge and an opportunity to be part of an association that gathers 38 national associations. We should be proud of this diversity in order to make it a strength. Together we stand, divided we fall”. He added that “aviation safety is at stake! Pilots’ and passengers’ lives shall not be traded over commercial interests and it is ECA’s mission to strive for strong European binding rules that contribute to higher safety standards.”

Jon Horne is a B-747 First Officer flying for British Airways and has been member of the British association for more than seven years. He stressed that he will bring to ECA the energy, passion and experience that are necessary to achieve ECA’s aims for higher aviation safety levels and better labour conditions for pilots across Europe.
