Decades of scientific and medical research – including EASA’s own scientific evaluation of Subpart Q FTL provisions (‘Moebus Report’) – clearly demonstrate a need to review and amend Europe’s current FTL rules. The Moebus Report even recommends a number of concrete legislative changes to address the risk that pilot fatigue poses a risk to the passengers’ flight safety.
This research has – yet again – been confirmed by 3 independent scientific reports that EASA commissioned in early 2011 to assess its NPA proposal. Although EASA decided to keep these reports confidential until end 2011, the 3 reports’ findings converge on most safety issues. They reconfirm that current FTL legislation – as well as EASA’s NPA – do not set safety standards at an adequate, scientifically backed level, and that legislative changes are required.
Passengers’ Right to a Safe Flight
The most fundamental right of each and every airline passenger it to have a safe flight.
If scientific evidence shows that current and proposed future EU safety legislation is not set at the highest, scientifically supported levels, passenger have the right to get this legislation changed. When boarding a European airplane, passengers must be able to trust in the European legislator that they are protected by adequate safety legislation that does not ignore scientific evidence. SAFETY MUST COME FIRST !
