Regional & Medium-Sized Airlines

What is the issue?

Contractual negotiations between pilots and their management are important milestones in any company. In Regional and Medium Size companies, they constitute a particular challenge. For pilots faced with the managements' competition arguments it is important to have economic information available to give them a basis upon which they can build a concrete proposal to their company.

How is ECA involved?

The aim of the work done by the 'RegMeg' working group is to gather information on the employment terms and conditions of pilots working for Regional and Medium size companies. The working group has launched a benchmarking and has at its disposal the pilots' salary scales information of a number of Regional and Medium sized companies. Whenever pilots need this information to negotiate their Collective Labour Agreements (CLA) with their company, ECA de-identifies the data collected through the benchmarking study and provides them to the Member Associations who need them.

Why is the issue important to ECA?

ECA has a major role in this area as it is the 'gate-keeper' of the identity of the airlines benchmarked. For individual pilots' associations, it is very difficult to gather such data from across Europe as this information is usually highly sensitive and confidential. Providing this service is important for ECA's Member Associations as it helps them be on a level playing field with the management they negotiate with.
